5 Tips For Purchasing Contact Management Software

1. Feature Rich. Contact management software offers much more than just a database. It serves as a computerized address book, provides fax and e-mail integration, keeps free-form notes by customer, autodial, provides a mail-merge
function for customized letters. Process letters and proposals quickly through the use of templates, and keep track and remind you of appointments and tasks. Look for these features and communicate more effectively.

2. Compatibility. Make sure your contact management, word processing, spreadsheet, accounting, and graphics systems are compatible. You will need your contact management system to import and export information from your other software in order to save hours of tedious data input work and to take advantage of the special features they offer. Some accounting systems have built-in contact models. Usually not a replacement for the real thing.

3. Don’t Create Your Own. Although it may seem to be less expensive, it will cost more in the long run. The store-bought version is the result of millions of dollars’ in R&D.

4. Range Of Programs. Programs available range from simple, less powerful but easy to learn contact managers that are free or cost less than $200 up to much more expensive and sophisticated packages you might use for in-depth sales
analysis and tracking with a large sales force.

5. Determine Your Needs. Check out various software manufacturers at a retail store that has a knowledgeable staff or visit the Internet to look for reviews of software packages and to obtain more detailed information on them.
