4 Ways To Say No Internally Or Externally

1. Quickly. You want to say no quickly but not without giving the situation reasonable thought. In some cases, the person who came to you needs to make alternative arrangements and your decision will have an impact on his or her next steps. Don’t keep that person waiting. You wouldn’t like being in their position.

2. With An Explanation. You may be required to explain why you said no so that the other person understands why and does not ask you for the same thing again. For example, you may not be able to provide a customer with a high calibre of service now but would appreciate the opportunity to service him or her in the future. It might be when you have more staff or larger premises or new equipment.

3. Politely. Arrogance will always jump out and bite you, usually at the most inappropriate time.

4. In Writing. Some situations require a more formal approach. By writing out your reasons, you will give yourself the opportunity to thoroughly examine them.

“Maybe or we’ll see does not mean no. Say what you mean.” A2E
